THE MAYBE PRACTICE

There are a few ways to do the Maybe practice. This Maybe Cards and Maybe Journal present two ways, and I have used one of them every day since I created them. It is so simple and easy, but the impact is truly life-changing.

Prepare yourself

Before you take the deck out, spend a few minutes thinking about a situation causing you fear, stress, worry, or doubt. Then, create a statement in your mind about how you feel about it. You can also write it down especially if you are using the Maybe Journal. I call these Fear Statements because they usually center on negative outcomes of things happening in this moment or worries about things that will happen in the future.

Now ask yourself: Are your worries, fears, doubts, or stressful thoughts absolute? Can you know for certain how things will turn out for your job, marriage, business, or any other situation that is creating fear, stress, or worry in your life? If you are not certain, try to acknowledge that other possibilities may exist.

Question yourself

Next, look at the Maybe deck with your Fear Statement. Keep thinking about it as you look through the deck. There will be statements that you read that unhook you from that thought, make you pause, make you want to invite that statement into your life, and cause you to feel hopeful or less doomed. Notice how they make you feel. There are also some blank cards if you create some of your own Maybe statements to add to the deck.

How do you feel?

If you are using the Maybe journal, write down the following: Maybe my beliefs about my situation are not true; Now write down Maybe statements that resonate with you. You can also create maybe statements regarding specific action steps that you might consider taking regarding your issue. Keep writing the maybe statements in your journal each day and see what happens to your stress and worry.

Continuous Reflection

Whichever method you use, as you start to feel a shift, add following as you finish reciting your maybe statements: “I am available and willing to see the situation differently. Maybe is always at play.”

Each situation you face and each new venture has many possible outcomes. Some of them might be different and, indeed, even better than you imagined!

THE MAYBE PRACTICE CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE

We forget that uncertainty is our best friend: If we want our lives to change, it must happen in the unknown. The unknown is filled with your dreams, desires, and miracles you can’t even begin to imagine. Maybe provides hope in the unknown. It is about remembering that there are many ways to be okay! Maybe you can find a way to accept what is happening and still find a solution. And let's not forget my favorite Maybe statement: Maybe the best is yet to come!
